Manchester United won't see an upturn in fortunes until they change their manager, says Michael Owen.
The Red Devils are coming off a humiliating 3-0 loss at home to Liverpool on Sunday and they've done little so far in the season to indicate that they've improved from the side that finished eighth in the Premier League in the previous campaign.
United made a few high-profile signings over the summer but former Red Devils star Owen doesn't believe it'll be enough to get back into the top four until the club decide to move on from Erik ten Hag.
"If you want to see Manchester United back on the right path then they need an upturn in form from the last two seasons," Owen told TVSporten. "They squirmed into fourth the year before, which was unbelievable looking back.
"But last year looking at their points total and the Champions League, you didn’t see enough to suggest that they could get into the top four this season.
"They finished eighth last year so if you're a Manchester United fan, you're wanting to see an upturn in performance immediately. From what they were last year to the start of this year, they’ve stuck with the same manager and the signings they’ve made might not be enough to turn the corner.
"That’s why I can’t see them in the top four. I think Man Utd are going to need a change of manager before they have an upturn in fortunes, so is anybody surprised about their start to the season?
"They possibly got lucky to get three points at home in the first game. But whichever way you look at it, you know, there's not enough change.
"I'm still of the opinion that there's a little bit that needs to change at Manchester United before they can start progressing."
