Former Manchester City goalkeeper Shay Given says Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has "gone nuclear" following their defeat to Everton on Sunday.
Forest - who are in a relegation battle - had three penalty shouts waved away by referee Anthony Taylor, and in all three cases VAR Stuart Attwell did not advise Taylor to take a closer look.
The club have since released a number of statements, including one straight after the match in which they said they had warned the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) that the VAR, Attwell, was a Luton fan.
Luton and Forest are locked in the same relegation battle, and the statement from Forest said the club "will now consider its options".
Speaking to BBC Radio 5Live, Given said: "There are statements dropping like confetti from all sorts of parties over the past day after a very important game and a very important three points at the bottom of the league.
"If you’re looking at it from a football perspective there is a strong case that all three should have been given.
"I don’t know why Stuart Attwell didn’t tell Anthony Taylor to go and look at the screen, particularly for the third one where Taylor clearly signals that Ashley Young got the ball.
"The referee on the pitch only has a split-second but the VAR can see numerous angles and slow-mos.
"It feels like Forest maybe feel like they’ve gone down the proper routes before and nothing has happened so they’ve come to his head-on car crash or whatever this weekend and felt like they can’t take anymore or accept this.
"Marinakis is a volatile character and he’s gone nuclear."
