Jose Mourinho is suddenly one of the biggest free agent managers in the world after he was fired by Serie A side AS Roma on Tuesday.

Mourinho had served as Roma boss since 2021, leading the Giallorossi to a UEFA Europa Conference League title in 2022. However, the club have struggled this season and are in ninth place in the league standings after 20 games.

As such, the famed Portuguese manager is once again out of a job, but with a sparkling CV that includes trophies won at Porto, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Manchester United, Mourinho will soon likely receive job offers from club (or countries) looking for an experienced football mind on the sidelines.

However, one former player in England's top flight believes one of Mourinho's former clubs is out of the question as a potential landing spot.

Speaking to OCB Scores, former Chelsea and Scotland winger Pat Nevin was adamant in his belief that there's no immediate future for Mourinho at Stamford Bridge.

“In terms of the plan laid out by the owners, there’s not a chance in a million Mourinho comes back [to Chelsea]," Nevin, who also briefly served as Motherwell CEO, said.

"If you look at the plan of the club, that’s not Jose Mourinho. It’s not his style.

"He does other things which are fantastic but the last time he built up a young group like that was Porto. That’s not his methodology.

“If the club did go down that route I would be surprised but I wouldn’t be gobsmacked because there are things that the club have done which doesn’t fit.

"I don’t think it would make sense at all for Mourinho to come back as Chelsea manager but does that mean it won’t happen? Who knows!

“If it was me, it wouldn’t be Jose Mourinho I would be looking at as manager. [Mauricio] Pochettino is great, me saying that might hurt some Chelsea fans.

"At the end of last season when Chelsea were looking for a manager, [current Tottenham manager] Ange Postecoglou was the man I wanted because of what he had done in Scotland.

"Those types of managers are difficult to find because you need a manager that’s positive and can get the best out of young players."
