As we hit the halfway stage of the season, the Premier League is proving to be one of the most interesting campaigns in years.

At the top Liverpool are the team to beat, but it's not Manchester City who are their closest challengers but Chelsea and most surprisingly...Nottingham Forest. Throw in the drama at Old Trafford and the up-and-down displays of Tottenham, there's already been so many memorable moments.

As we head into 2025, here is the team of the season so far in this season's Premier League.

Matz Sels (Nottingham Forest)

Forest's European charge has been built on a solid base, and they have been the division's most sturdy defence - led by their Belgian between the sticks. Sels has kept eight clean sheets so far this season - the most in the league - and has been a reliable final line of defence for Nuno Espirito Santo's men, thanks to a string of top-drawer saves.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool)

The England man has been in fine form, revelling in Liverpool's excellent first half of the campaign. The right-back has managed to put contract talk to one side as one of Arne Slot's key men in their attack on trophies both at home and abroad. With performances as good as this, Liverpool fans are praying their number 66 stays at Anfield beyond the summer.

Gabriel (Arsenal)

Arsenal has been this season's corner kings, and one of the biggest beneficiaries of their wizardry from corner kicks has been centre-back Gabriel. Not only has he continued to excel in the backline alongside Wiliam Saliba, but he has also scored vital goals for Mikel Arteta coming up from the back.

Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool)

Back to his vintage best under Arne Slot, the accusations that Van Dijk was on the decline couldn't be wider from the mark. The Anfield skipper has returned to the cool, calm and cultured leader in Liverpool's back line and it has only made fans yearn further for the Dutchman to sign a contract extension. Surely, he'll end the campaign by lifting silverware for the Reds.

Antonee Robinson (Fulham)

The left-back regulars seem to have gone MIA this season, allowing Fulham's American star to show he's one of the division's best in that position. Robinson has contributed four assists as Fulham quietly go on a European charge, and it can't be long before the big boys of the division cast an eye over Craven Cottage in the direction of the 27-year-old.

Moises Caicedo (Chelsea)

The £115 million spent on this defensive midfielder feels like a long time ago now, but under Enzo Maresca, Caicedo is finally looking like the player Chelsea invested that money in. At the base of the Blues' midfield, the Ecuadorian has excelled and has improved as the season has gone on. He's now one of the first names on the team sheet.

Ryan Gravenberch (Liverpool)

Liverpool's failure to bring in another midfielder in the last two summer windows has been Gravenberch's gain, who has shown there's now no need for the club to fill that spot. The all-action Dutchman is finally showing his talent at Anfield, and his ability to switch to the defensive midfield berth has been a massive benefit to Arne Slot's tidy takeover of the team.

Cole Palmer (Chelsea)

Palmer has just continued where he left off last season, and is undoubtedly one of the league's most entertaining players to watch. He's notched 26 goals in 2024 and broke a Premier League record by netting four in a first-half onslaught against Brighton. Expect to see more of the cold shoulders in 2025, and the England man among the individual honours again.

Mohamed Salah (Liverpool)

Is there a better player in the world right now than Mo Salah? The Egyptian King has 17 goals and 13 assists already this season, as he proves once again he's one of the very best the league has ever seen. It seems it's already Mo Salah's season and the second half of the campaign will be dominated by his charge for another league title...and his future beyond his campaign.

Alexander Isak (Newcastle)

For all the talk of Newcastle's recruitment, there's no denying that the outlay on Isak has been worth every penny. The Swede has been in deadly form for the Magpies, with eleven goals to his name so far this season. He's definitely in the conversation when he comes to the Golden Boot.

Chris Wood (Nottingham Forest)

Erling Haaland's early form saw him top the charts once again, but Chris Wood's form has to be recognised in Forest's superb season. The big New Zealander has been the focal point for the campaign's surprise package, netting eleven goals and being a constant menace. His form could lead his side all the way to a European place.
