The Three Lions back in action this weekend.

Teddy Sheringham is backing Kyle Walker to remain a crucial player for England ahead of their quarter-final clash with Switzerland on Saturday.

The Manchester City defender wasn't at his best during the Three Lions' win over Slovakia in the last round, but is still seen as one of Gareth Southgate's leaders in the squad.

Talking to Poker Sites, former England striker Sheringham, squashed any notion of Walker's place in the team being under threat as he remains an important player in Germany.

He said: “Not at all! Walker didn’t have his best game against Slovakia the other day, but the game beforehand, I thought he was phenomenal.

"As a player, you’ll always have ups and downs in an international tournament – different attackers and different systems will give you different problems throughout.

“He was definitely a little under par in the last game but he’s still a very important part of Gareth Southgate’s team.

"He leads by example through his work rate and desire, and in encouraging other players to perform better – he should absolutely start every game for England.”
