Manchester United kick off the new Premier League season this Friday night when they take on Fulham, with Erik ten Hag ready to begin his third season in charge of the club.
Despite some huge speculation over his job at the end of last season, the Dutchman remains in charge of the Red Devils following their FA Cup triumph over Manchester City in May.
However, Ten Hag will be aided by a new-look coaching staff this season, with one familiar face returning to his former club, in Ruud van Nistelrooy.
The legendary striker is now on the coaching staff at Old Trafford, and according to another former United star, Lee Sharpe, could be being lined up to replace Ten Hag at some point in the future.
Sharpe told Highest Payout Online Casino, "I can absolutely see Ruud van Nistelrooy filling Ten Hag’s shoes someday, and it makes you wonder if that is part of the reason behind employing him at Manchester United. He’ll learn a bit from Ten Hag and also brings his own ideas, he’s already been a manager, and an assistant for the Netherlands at international level.
“He’s worked with top players as a manager so there is no reason why he couldn’t be United manager – it would be sensible. If Ten Hag has a few years of success and then for Ruud to step in and take over, it would make sense to keep that philosophy going. It’s a bit like how Liverpool used to run things in the Boot Room, promoting from within, it makes huge sense.”
