The former Spurs man has made a bold claim.

Former Tottenham and Netherlands midfielder Rafael van der Vaart has reiterated his opinion that Liverpool's Ryan Gravenberch could become better than England and Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham.

Bellingham, 21, has developed into one of the world's most talented footballers, scoring 23 goals in 44 games for Real Madrid since joining in July 2023 - and adding another 14 assists.

The number of players with the potential to be better than Bellingham is very small, but Van der Vaart believes his compatriot Gravenberch is one of them.

Gravenberch, 22, has taken a big step forward under Arne Slot, and impressed for the Netherlands in their recent Nations League games.

And speaking to BetMGM, Van der Vaart said the former Bayern Muich midfielder could go on to exceed Bellingham.

“I took quite a lot of stick when I said Ryan Gravenberch has the potential to be better than Jude Bellingham a year or so ago, but I stand by it," said Van der Vaart.

“I’ve always said the sky's the limit for him if he can use his full potential and ability, so I’m not surprised by how good he’s been this season both for Liverpool and the Netherlands.

“He’s strong, quick and intelligent – Liverpool fans should be very excited about what’s to come.”

Gravenberch and Liverpool are back in action this weekend against Nottingham Forest.
