The Premier League returns this weekend, with only two teams carrying a one hundred per cent record so far.
Unsurprisingly, Manchester City have won all three of their games this season, but Arne Slot's Liverpool have matched the reigning champions, leading to a growing belief that they could mount a title challenge.
Before the season started, it was Arsenal who were seen as the main threat to City's dominance, but speaking to BetMGM, former Dutch star Rafael van der Vaart feels it could be Liverpool who push Pep Guardiola's team all the way.
He said: “Many think Arsenal will be the ones to serve it up to Manchester City, but I don’t agree. City and Liverpool look the two best sides to me.
“It’s so hard to keep going again and again, season after season, and I look at the Arsenal team in the long-term and worry about them. I can’t see Arsenal winning the Premier League this season.
“I was really impressed by Liverpool when they beat Manchester United – they looked so stable and everything looked very easy. City are definitely the favourites, but don’t write off Liverpool.
Manchester City welcome Brentford to The Eithad on Saturday, while Liverpool entertain Nottingham Forest. Both games kick-off at 3pm.
