Mark Lawrenson is happy with Liverpool's start to the season but warns that the club, and new manager Arne Slot, have "had an easy ride" so far.

The Reds are in first place after seven matches, with Manchester City and Arsenal both a point behind Slot's side. Liverpool have been near impossible to score against in the early stages of the campaign, having allowed just two goals thus far.

It's a positive beginning to Slot's tenure on the sidelines at Anfield, but Lawrenson believes things will only get tougher for club in the immediate future. The former longtime Liverpool defender notes that all of the club's matches so far have come against sides in the bottom half of the table, and the next stretch of games will see the Reds face opposition currently inside the top six of the standings.

Those matches — against Chelsea, Arsenal, Brighton and Aston Villa, respectively — will paint a clearer picture of Liverpool's true standing, he said.

“I think Arne Slot has had an easy ride at Liverpool so far with the fixtures that they’ve had," Lawrenson said while speaking to Paddy Power. "The next four fixtures will give us a good idea of where the team are at.

"After 10 games in the Premier League, I feel like that is a good chance to see where teams will finish, come the end of the season. Maybe not with the teams towards the bottom as that looks like there could be six to eight teams fighting relegation, but more relevant for the top four/five teams.”
