Robbie Fowler understands why his former club may approach an experienced manager such as Jose Mourinho as they continue their search for Jurgen Klopp’s successor.
Liverpool are likely to appoint Arne Slot as new manager, but the period of uncertainty that awaits the Dutch manager has got Fowler thinking that someone like Mourinho could ease Klopp’s absence.
The German manager will step down at the end of this current campaign after being at Anfield for almost nine years.
Klopp has won numerous honours including the Champions League and Premier League and replacing the club icon could be a daunting task.
“I could understand why you would get someone like a Mourinho, a case in point would be Real Madrid, for example,” said Fowler when speaking to Crypto Casino LTD.
“When Zinedine Zidane left for the second time in 2021, they didn’t go looking for a young and up-coming manager, they went for an experienced manager in Carlo Ancelotti.
“That experience and that know-how can definitely help a club in transition.”
