Roberto De Zerbi on what was missing in first half of Brighton draw with Crystal Palace

Roberto De Zerbi on what was missing in first half of Brighton draw with Crystal PalaceDAZN
The teams played a yet another draw at Selhurst Park.

In perhaps the most predictable result in the world of football, Brighton earned a 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace on Thursday.

The teams have now produced that exact same scoreline five straight times in this fixture, but for much of the second half it looked as though Palace would finally claim a victory over the visiting Seagulls at Selhurst Park.

Jordan Ayew put the hosts up 1-0 at the stroke of half-time, and Palace managed to keep their visitors at bay until the 82nd minute when Danny Welbeck's perfectly placed header found the back of the net for the equaliser.

While Brighton will be happy to come away with something from the match, manager Roberto De Zerbi was less than thrilled at the result after the final whistle.

"I think we lost two points," De Zerbi told Sky Sports. "It is because we made too many mistakes, especially in the first half.

"In the second half we played with more energy, to find the chance to score."

Brighton's bounce-back in the closing 45 minutes is a positive that De Zerbi points to, but he also bemoaned his side's defensive errors and lack of finish.

"I think we played in a different way in the second half," he said. "Played with more energy and invention to score.

"If we are losing it is because we are making too many mistakes. We had two or three chances to score and didn't score. We concede another bad goal and we can play better and we can't lose the ball in that way.

"We have to accept the policy of the club is to play with many young players. With the young players you have to give them time to make mistakes."
