Roy Keane believes Manchester United need to finish in the top four of the Premier League to ensure Erik ten Hag's job security.
Ten Hag is preparing to lead the Red Devils into a new season after undergoing a review by United ownership this summer, with the front office deciding to stick with the manager rather than replace him.
United ended the 2023-24 league campaign in eighth place but an FA Cup victory allowed the club to finish on a high, and Keane said that while the trophy likely extended Ten Hag's tenure at Old Trafford it will not be enough next season.
Speaking on Stick to Football, brought to you by Sky Bet, Keane said:
“The cup game gave him some breathing space and rightly so, but he can’t be finishing eighth next year.
"They [Manchester United] have to be competing next year in the top four, it's going to be hard to win but it’s about competing, the records they’ve created the last twelve months in the league, it’s so poor.”
