Martin O’Neill believes new Wrexham signing James McClean is ‘the fittest player I’ve ever met.’
McClean played for O’Neill when the former Leicester City man was manager of the Republic of Ireland’s national team.
The Irish midfielder has played for Wigan Athletic, West Bromwich Albion, Sunderland and Stoke City, before ending his second tenure at Wigan to move to newly promoted Wrexham.
Wrexham are currently best known for their Hollywood ownership by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, and the club will be looking to the 34-year-old’s experience as they chase consecutive promotions and build towards more success.
McClean has so far earned 100 caps for his national team and played 553 games of club football, and O’Neill is not surprised by his longevity, given his physical fitness.
He told BoyleSports who provide the latest Premier League odds: “James McClean is one of the physically fittest players I've ever known. That won't be a problem.
“I hope he settles in quickly and he will become a key player in the team.
“James is going to be fit and capable of playing for at least another three or four years. The owners won't stop until they get another promotion so I think it's a great move for James.”
