Shaun Wright-Phillips explains why 'all the pressure' is on Liverpool

Liverpool enjoy a six-point cushion atop the Premier League standings and they hold a game in hand on the clubs chasing them in the title race, but Shaun Wright-Phillips warns that the Reds' lofty position adds unintended pressure as they pursue the league crown.

The Reds have been one of the best clubs in the world this season as they lead both the Premier League and Champions League standings, and with the domestic campaign past the halfway mark there is a clear road to the title for Arne Slot's men.

However, Wright-Phillips urged the side to be wary of complacency — the retired England, Chelsea and Manchester City winger stressed that Liverpool could become their own biggest enemies as the season winds down.

"It's in Liverpool’s hands now, and it will only be through their own failures that they don’t win the title from now on in," Wright-Phillips told Genting Casino. "All the pressure is on them now.

"I think they have to be careful – they can’t draw that many games now because although you're picking up points, if other teams go on winning streaks, you’re in trouble and it can completely change the destination of the title."
