Liverpool regained their spot atop the Champions League standings with a 2-0 victory over Real Madrid on Wednesday that Arne Slot deemed "pleasing."
Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo each scored after halftime to secure the three points for the Reds, with Kylian Mbappé and Mohamed Salah each missing a penalty in an action-filled second half at Anfield.
The result kept Liverpool perfect through five matches in the Champions League, continuing their dream start to the 2024-25 campaign as they also lead the Premier League by a whopping eight points after 12 games.

For Slot, who took over from Jurgen Klopp in summer as Liverpool manager, Wednesday's match was a microcosm of the season at large for the club as it showed the Reds' ability to play with any side and perform the way he prefers.
"You know how special it is to play against a team that has won the Champions League so many times," Slot told TNT Sports shortly after the final whistle. "They were a pain in the a— for Liverpool for many years too. It is a big week and it is pleasing to see.
"I didn't have a schedule in terms of amount of points I wanted. You want to implement the playing style as soon as possible. That is not difficult because it wasn't that different to Jurgen's. It is great to see not only the starters but the players coming on are doing as we expect. If before the season I had counted points for this point in the season I wouldn't have done as much as we have now."
However, even amid the high of victory, Slot was still quick to point out that improvements can be made by his side.
"Every time Real Madrid threatened us was from us," he explained. "I think we can play with more intensity and better with the ball."
