Teddy Sheringham tells Gareth Southgate what to do to earn Man Utd job

There could be an Old Trafford vacancy this summer.

Teddy Sheringham believes Gareth Southgate must win the Euro 2024 tournament if he wants to become Manchester United manager.

Few expect Erik ten Hag to remain in place as Jim Ratcliffe continues his overhaul at Old Trafford, and Southgate is one of the names in the frame to take over from the Dutchman.

While he won the FA Cup with a great performance against Manchester City, his eighth-place finish in the league is likely to doom him.

Sheringham, who played for both England and United during his career, believes that Southgate needs to win the European Championships in order to secure the gig.

He told Genting Casino: “I think Gareth Southgate is quite happy with the England job and so he should be, he’s done a fantastic job. He knows the players inside and out and if he does well in the Euros, the World Cup is only two years around the corner.

“Why wouldn’t he want to stay in charge and keep producing results? Even then, if England have a bad summer then who’s to say that Manchester United would want him in charge.

“I think he's doing fantastic things with England but managing Manchester United is a completely different ball game."
