Manchester City are on the brink of elimination from the Champions League after a 4-2 defeat at Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday.
Both sides were desperate for a victory as they had each underperformed through the first six matches of the league phase, putting them in the bottom half of the table.
The Sky Blues appeared to take control of Wednesday's match early in the second half when Jack Grealish and Erling Haaland scored in quick succession to give the Premier League side a two-goal lead, but the Parisians stormed back with four unanswered goals as they overwhelmed their shocked visitors with a relentless attack.
Simply put, PSG were more deserving of the victory, according to Pep Guardiola.
"The first half they had some moments, we had some moments, but they were better," the Man City manager told TNT Sports. "We scored the first goal, we could not control it. In that moment we were knocked out and they were lifted and then they were better. They were quicker, faster, stronger in the duels. They had control in the middle and we could not cope with that."
Guardiola wants his side to put the loss behind them and focus on their last opportunity at advancement into the next round. City will host Belgian side Club Brugge next week on the final matchday of the league phase, and the Sky Blues will need to win that game or be eliminated.
"I accept the defeat because the best team won," Guardiola said. "We have a last chance at home against Club Brugge. If we win then hopefully we can qualify."
