Arsenal got back to winning ways on Wednesday with a 2-1 victory over North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur at the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners had an extra zip in their step from the opening whistle and looked to overwhelm their visitors with possessional dominance, but a Son Heung-min strike in the 25th minute gave Tottenham the lead. The deficit did little to quell Arsenal's pressure, and in the 40th minute a Gabriel header caromed off two Spurs defenders and nestled into the net to pull the home side on level terms.
Four minutes later, Leandro Trossard finished a spectacular run down the left side of the pitch with a hard, low effort from distance that beat goalkeeper Antonín Kinský to give Arsenal a lead they wouldn't relinquish, as the Gunners snapped a three-match winless streak and inched themselves closer to Premier League leaders Liverpool.
For Trossard, the performance was just what the doctor ordered as Arsenal did not want to let another opportunity to close the gap on Liverpool slip away.
That it came against their biggest rivals is just icing on the cake.
"This is what we needed," Trossard told TNT Sports. "We all know that we have to win these games against Spurs. You can see what it means to the fans, they are buzzing. It is a great night for us.
"We want to win every game, especially these derby games. We were up for it today and managed to take three points."
As the scorer of the match-winning goal, Trossard took some personal glory from Wednesday's victory, but he credited his entire team for the effort they put in after a week of sub-par performances outside of the league.
"It is an amazing feeling [to score], especially when it ends up being the winner as well," Trossard said. "I am just happy for everyone. We work so hard day in and day out. Now we need to look forward and build on it.
"The hardest thing in football is to get the ball in the net. I think that we could have scored more today as well but obviously we are happy with the three points.
"We always want to put pressure on them [Liverpool] but we can only look at ourselves. Try to win every game starting today. We need to look forward, take all the positives and enjoy this win."
