North American neighbours face off in Kansas City as the United States host Canada on Saturday for an international friendly.
The two nations are, along with Mexico, preparing to host the World Cup in less than two years' time, and both are in the midst of a transitional period.
The Canadians are further along in their new era under head coach Jesse Marsch, himself a former U.S. international and assistant coach. The 50-year-old took over as Canada manager in June, leading the side to a respectable fourth-place finish in the recent Copa America.
Meanwhile, the Americans didn't fare as expected in the same tournament, exiting after the group stage. They then parted ways with longtime former head coach Gregg Berhalter and are now widely reported to have hired Mauricio Pochettino as his replacement.
The former Tottenham, PSG and Chelsea boss will not be on the sidelines for this match, however, as Mikey Varas will serve as interim manager for this match and the Americans' friendly against New Zealand next week.
