AFC Bournemouth were giant slayers once again as they defeated visiting Manchester City 2-1 on Saturday.
The Cherries went toe-to-toe with the four-time defending Premier League champions and came out on top, with a ninth-minute goal by Antoine Semenyo and Evanilson's 64th-minute marker giving the hosts a two-goal lead before City's Josko Gvardiol scored eight minutes from full-time to make it a nervy finish to the match for Bournemouth.
They managed to hold on for the victory, giving the fans at the Vitality Stadium an entertaining result for the ages.
"It was a great game," Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola told BBC Match of the Day. "We did everything we could. We needed our very best performance and not the greatest game [from City] and that happened. It is very good to beat City and even better to beat them deservedly.
"It is very difficult. They are a great team. They have amazing subs and you have to suffer, stay compact. We suffered after a good game. We had the chance to finish it and not suffer too much at the end, but now we have to enjoy it."
The match marked the second straight home match that Bournemouth welcomed a title contender into their home ground and claimed all three points, with the Cherries having defeated Arsenal 2-0 on Oct. 19. Iraola stressed that his side will not be taken lightly at home.
"It is difficult but we have shown on our day we can create chances," he said. "We know there are better teams than us but it is not easy to play here and we have to keep this level so everyone knows that when the come here it will not be an easy game."
