Inter Miami play for another trophy on Wednesday as they host Houston Dynamo in the U.S. Open Cup final.
The Lionel Messi era in Miami began with a magical run to the Leagues Cup title, and now the Herons look to add more silverware to their trophycase.
The biggest narrative heading to the match is whether Messi suits up. The superstar has missed out on Miami's 1-1 league draw at Orlando City over the weekend after exiting his team's 4-0 victory over Toronto FC last week, and Miami coach Tata Martino has been coy about Messi's participation in Wednesday's final.
“We imagine that he doesn't want to miss the very important final,” Martino said of the World Cup winner. “In this case, yes I will sit down with him to see what his feelings are. … Here there are three questions: first the player, then the final, and then what comes next."
Martino added: “He doesn’t need surgery or anything like that. It’s just a matter of how much time the player needs to rest in order to play the next game. If it wasn’t a final, we wouldn’t take any risks. But because it’s a final, there is a chance we take that risk.”
