Rafael Nadal says he is not part of Spain's Davis Cup team as a formality as he takes aim at success in the final tournament of his professional career.
The 22-time Grand Slam champion will retire at the conclusion of his nation's paticipation in the event this month, bringing the curtain down on a glittering tenure.
A member of the sport's Big Three, Nadal became one of the faces of tennis, alongside Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray, among others.

He follows Federer and Murray into retirement imminently, but ahead of Spain's quarter-final clash with the Netherlands, the 38-year-old insists he is not here on status alone.
"I'm not here for retiring," he said ahead of the torunament, in which he is a four-time winner. "I'm here to help the team win. It's a team competition.
"The most important thing is to all stay focused on what we have to do. That is play tennis and do it very well. The emotions are going to be for the end."
Nadal has not played since he contested Riyadh Season's Six Kings Slam last month, and there are questions over his fitness ahead of the tie with the Dutch.
Team captain David Ferrer has plenty to choose from, including Carlos Alcaraz, Roberto Bautista Agut and Pedro Martinez among the ranks of his side.
