Who's house? Swerve's house!
Swerve Strickland made history Sunday night at AEW Dynasty 2024 by defeating Samoa Joe to become the first-ever African American AEW World Champion.
The electric moment inside of the Chaifetz Arena in St. Louis, Missouri, and live on pay-per-view, came when Strickland planted Joe with an explosive powerbomb before scaling the top turnbuckle and crashing down with a Swerve Stomp to be crowned the new titleholder.
Overcome with emotion, his eyes welling with tears, Strickland had to dig deep to put the ultra-physical Joe away as a 450 Guillotine from the top ropes and Swerve Stomp weren't enough to get the pinfall just moments earlier.
That changed when Strickland uncorked a House Call kick out of nowhere, following it with a counter powerbomb and second Swerve Stomp to finally usher in the Swerve Strickland era as AEW World Champion.
"First thing to say, my champion is Black," Strickland told reporters during the post-event press conference. "A ton of hard work went into this. Nothing was guaranteed at all, nothing was handed out to me."
Elsewhere at AEW Dynasty 2024, Will Ospreay got the best of Bryan Danielson in an epic Match of the Year candidate, while the Young Bucks became three-time AEW World Tag Team Champions with an unlikely assist from a returning Jack Perry. Willow Nightingale also defeated Julia Hart to become the new AEW TBS Champion.
