NXT fans were left shocked at the culmination of Sunday night's Vengeance Day show, as Carmelo Hayes turned his back on long-time friend Trick Williams.
The pair had begun the night participating in the final of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic but came up short when they were defeated by the team of Bron Breakker and Baron Corbin.
Despite the loss, Williams requested to have Hayes in his corner for his main event bout, as he pulled double-duty on the night and challenged Iija Dragunov for the NXT Championship.
However, once again, Williams failed to get the win, as Dragunov retained his championship in an entertaining main event from the pair.
Williams's night then went from bad to worse when, after the match, Hayes turned on his long-term running mate by taking out his leg and then attacking him with a steel chair.
Both Williams and Hayes are reportedly set for a move to the main roster imminently, so it will be interesting to see if they start this rivalry across SmackDown when Williams returns.
