Dolph Ziggler’s incredible two decade run with WWE is over after it was reported that he was one of a number of releases made by the Stamford based company earlier this week.
Now set to become a free agent, it’s possible that Ziggler could be on his way to AEW in an attempt to freshen up his appeal and put him back on the high level he frequently operated on in WWE.
Here’s a look at several potential rivals waiting for Ziggler in AEW.
Chris Jericho
A name Ziggler knows well is Chris Jericho after the pair came together at Summerslam 2012 in a match won by "The Ocho". Ziggler wouldn’t have to wait long for revenge as he defeated Jericho the following night forcing his contract to be terminated but could they renew hostilities over 11 years later?
Edge
Is Edge even heading to AEW?
There’s plenty of speculation suggesting so but could Ziggler be there waiting for him? The pair took part in a memorbale feud in 2011 with the WWE’s biggest prize at stake and although Ziggler was able to briefly grab the gold, it was Edge who eventually took the series. Purely for nostalgia reasons, this could be a battle worth revisiting.
Kenny Omega
The dream opponent for all wrestlers heading to AEW and what a sight it would be to see Ziggler going up against Kenny Omega. Despite not being featured prominently in recent years, there’s no doubt that Ziggler is a stellar performer and an outing against Omega would surely improve the bodies of work of both men.
Ricky Starks
Ricky Starks is on the rise and a win over Ziggler could elevate his profile even further. Starks has taken huge strides in 2023 and once his current feud with Bryan Danielson is over, a rivalry alongside Ziggler could provide him with another veteran’s rub as he looks to become one of AEW’s biggest stars.
MJF
Is the biggest prize in AEW likely to be the target for Ziggler? After securing all the big prizes in WWE, could Ziggler bolster his collection by going after MJF?
A battle between these two supremely talented performers could do big business for AEW and with the company's grandest prize on the line, both men would surely deliver brilliantly.
