NXT said his name and the TNA star made a surprise short run in NXT.

When it comes to discussing who has been the breakout star of 2024, few would argue that Joe Hendry wouldn't be in the conversation.

The Scottish star has been one of the biggest names in the industry this year, largely down to Hendry's own incredible ablility to put himself in the spotlight.

Whether it's entering the UK pop charts with his now infamous 'I Believe in Joe Hendry', beefing with Eminem or headling this weekend's Bound For Glory, there's rarely been a quiet moment in the life of the 36-year-old.

One of those moments was becoming the first active TNA superstar to work an extended programme in WWE, with Hendry's popular run in NXT.

Speaking exclusively to DAZN, he opened up about his time on the WWE brand and how it instantly helped him propel himself into world title contention.

"It was unbelievable. We're doing historic things here at TNA. We've never really seen stuff like this before," Hendry said.

"I believe having a TNA wrestler at the Performance Center full-time, doing TNA and NXT for a full-time period is absolutely unprecedented. So, it was an honour to represent TNA in that situation. I'm grateful for the freedom and the trust that I got from TNA, and I'm grateful for the welcome that I got from WWE.

"It was everything that I wanted it to be and I was grateful for the knowledge that they shared, the time that Shawn Michaels and Terry Taylor and Johnny Russo and others took to teach and allow me to take that back and to learn.

"I feel like after NXT, when I came back and had the match with Josh Alexander, I feel I showed the world that in my view, I feel this year that I am the most improved wrestler. I feel that I proved that, and that situation really helped me to do that.

"So I'm grateful for TNA opening that door for me."

Hendry headlines TNA Bound For Glory this weekend when he challenges Nic Nemeth for the TNA world championship.
