The glee is obvious in Tony Khan’s voice as Revolution, AEW’s opening PPV of 2022, draws closer.
After delivering multiple stellar events to close out last year, including the phenomenal All Out, AEW appears well positioned to build on the platforms placed in 2021 when the likes of Bryan Danielson, Adam Cole, and CM Punk all made memorable debuts. Those aforementioned names look set to make a significant impact this Sunday night in Orlando, Florida.
For Danielson, his eagerness to form an unlikely alliance with Jon Moxley must see him face the Cincinatti brawler first. The relationship between the vastly experienced has teased many directions and it may become clear where it’s headed once their meeting at Revolution has finished.
A lengthier storyline than Danielson and Moxley, Punk’s feud with MJF has been one of wrestling’s brightest rivalries in recent months. Their stunning verbal exchanges received widespread acclaim before their near 40-minute clash on a recent Dynamite prolonged the tale. Their dog collar match at Revolution has a ton of potential but will it be the match that steals the show?
Adam Page and Adam Cole may have something to say about that. Two of wrestling’s most consistent performers have plenty of history together and their journey to fight it out for AEW’s top prize has been a remarkable one. ‘Hangman’ has resisted numerous challenges since becoming world champion, but can he deter the threat of Cole, who’s ready for his biggest match since joining AEW last September?
“Really, this is perhaps the best card we’ve ever assembled,” said Tony Khan when speaking exclusively to DAZN .
“We’ve hit our stride with our PPV offerings recently and you can see that with what we tried to deliver to our fans in 2021. We want to continue to give our fans excellent quality when they sit down to watch AEW. We can’t just deliver one big show then be satisfied. We have to keep moving forward.
“At Revolution, with the names involved, I think you’re going to see an excellent wrestling show. I’m very confident that the talent will deliver in the ring, but it’s also important that we use the show to build what we want to do for the rest of the year.
"This is going to be a show where some storylines end, but you’re also going to see new storylines emerge.
"We’ve built into this show so well in recent weeks, and you’ll see the hard work pay off at Revolution.”
Given the success of 'A Hangman's Tale', the two-year oddyssey that took Page from the depths of anxiety and self-doubt to become the top guy in the company, as well as the electrifying weekly saga currently produced by Punk-MJF and Danielson-Moxley, the prospect of even more big chapters in AEW's still-fledgling history is admittedly a mouthwatering one.
It remains to be seen what Khan and his roster have in store for fans on Sunday.
