Tony Khan had no issues with a few of his talents making an appearance to Ring of Honor’s ‘Final Battle’ last weekend.
The show, massively speculated to be the final major event from the Sinclair Broadcasting Group, received widespread attention due to its potential significance and several AEW stars who made their names in ROH were appeared on the broadcast to provide their gratitude to the innovative company.
Serving as a springboard to wrestling’s mainstream as well as being an alternative to it, Ring of Honor is responsible for a number of high-profile careers that are still blossoming today. Their rumoured demise would be a hammer blow to the wrestling industry but that didn’t stop their current roster from maintaining their excellent standard last Saturday.
As well as being an enjoyable show, fans were treated to multiple video packages from the likes of CM Punk, Bryan Danielson, and Adam Cole, as a collection of major of AEW performers offered their thanks to the company that played a huge role in their character development.
As well as recorded messages, AEW’s FTR, arguably the world’s premier tag team, made an appearance as they faced off with The Briscoes in a segment that teased a dream match in 2022. Jay Lethal, a recent signing to AEW, also returned to his old stomping ground as he faced Jonathan Gresham for the vacant World Championship, replacing ex-champ Bandido, who had tested positive for COVID-19.
Khan, AEW’s President, was satisfied with how things played out but had no additional information on whether ROH will continue into 2022.
“I’ve made it clear many times that I’m open to working with other companies” said Khan during a lengthy chat with DAZN. “As long as it’s beneficial to AEW and it puts our company and our wrestlers in a positive light then I’m all for it. I’ve proven that many times before. It was great to work alongside Ring of Honor and help those guys out. As for their future, I can’t really comment on that, but I wish them well with what happens next.”
