The MMA champion paid tribute to his boxing peer.

UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya has praised Tyson Fury’s comeback after problems with substance abuse and mental health.

The current WBC champion defended a world title for the first time when he fought Deontay Wilder in their trilogy rematch back in October, despite being a world champion before.

Fury missed time away from the sport after suffering from various troubles, but has now become the most feared heavyweight in the game.

Speaking to Sky Sports, fellow champion Adesanya asked what he thought of when Fury came to mind.

“Resurrection. I like that,” he said. “The way he got up in the last round, shows the story of his life. Resurrection, the Undertaker.”

Adesanya continued, saying that Fury’s openness over his struggles are a source of strength for the boxer.

“His honesty and his vulnerability, he’s not scared to be vulnerable with his emotions, his dark times, and that’s where he gets his strength from,” he said.

“How he’s been at the lowest, like we all have, and rose from the ashes like a phoenix. That’s inspiring. As a human being, he’s a really special human being.”
