Manchester United are on the rise.
The Red Devils have won their last four Premier League matches and they now sit fourth on the table, tied on points with third-place Newcastle and holding a game in hand on the Magpies. United are clicking under Erik ten Hag, having not allowed a single goal in the four matches since the World Cup break ended.
Now they look to bring their red-hot league form into a pair of cup competitions, starting on Friday with a third-round FA Cup tie against Everton. Perhaps no other team are as happy to step away from the league than the Toffees, who haven't won a match since October and are mired in the relegation zone with just 15 points from 18 games.
Everton now earn a brief respite from their Premier League woes, but it's hardly expected to be smooth sailing against the ascendent Red Devils. The Toffees have won just one of their last 29 trips to Old Trafford — the venue for Friday's match — and that was all the way back in December 2013.
