Chelsea Women's 2018-2019 season was the turning point that prompted head coach Emma Hayes to turn the team around. They had lost in the Champions League semifinals to Olympic Lyon and in the domestic league they had finished third in the standings, which meant they would not play in the Champions League the following season.
