<p>Kell Brook attempted to cause a huge upset in 2016 when he moved up to middleweight to challenge Gennadiy Golovkin in 2016.  </p>

<p>At the time, both men were unbeaten, but it was Brook taking the biggest risk as he jumped up from welterweight to test himself against one of the most dangerous fighters in the sport. </p>

<p>Brook was unsuccessful in his attempt to become a two-weight world champion as he was unable to prevent Golovkin from piling on the pressure.  </p>

<p>Golovkin retained his middleweight crown with an emphatic fifth-round stoppage as Brook was rescued but his concerned corner after suffering some damage to his eye.  </p>

<p>Looking back on the fight with Simon Jordan, Brook has given Golovkin plenty of credit for his performance. </p>

<p>“Looking back at it, Gennady Golovkin was an absolute monster, he was someone who was unbeaten and believed he could beat any man – even at middleweight,” said <a href="https://sports.williamhill.com/betting/en-gb">Brook on the William Hill Up Front podcast</a>. </p>

<p>All eyes will be on the battle between the two quarterbacks in Sunday night’s AFC Championship game when the Baltimore Ravens host the Kansas City Chiefs. </p>

<p>Ravens QB Lamar Jackson is coming off a regular season that looks set to be garnished with his second NFL MVP award, while Chiefs signal-caller Patrick Mahomes and his offense have found form in the playoffs after a stuttering regular season. </p>

<p>Fireworks are expected from both offenses, but this is likely to be a game that is decided by whichever defense is able to slow down the elite quarterback that they are facing. </p>

<p>Ravens linebacker Roquan Smith is relishing the match-up against two-time NFL and Super Bowl MVP Mahomes and believes that his unit will be able to match up well against the 28-year-old. </p>

<p>"We all know he's an elite quarterback," Smith said during a pre-Championship game press conference on Wednesday "He does everything well. I think personally just his ability to read coverages, extend plays. … He's a great quarterback, we all know that, but so are we on defense."</p>

<p>The Baltimore defense finished the regular season allowing just 16.5 points per game, a league-wide best, and Smith has hailed his team-mates application throughout the season. </p>

<p>"I think it just goes back to guys not being complacent," Smith explained. "Guys being consistent. Day in and day out, and I think it starts with the preparation throughout the week. Each and every guy look themselves in the mirror. I try to tell each and every guy every day, if you give everything that you've got, there's not many people who can do what we can do. I know this defense is really good, and we're going to do everything in our part to show that to the world."</p>

<p>The winners of the AFC title game will face whoever triumphs in the NFC Championship game between the San Francisco 49ers and Detroit Lions in Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas on February 11</p>

Neil Ruddock claims Ivan Toney's head is all over the place after his Premier League return

<p>The San Francisco 49ers continue to sweat on the fitness of Deebo Samuel ahead of Sunday night’s NFC Championship game against the Detroit Lions. </p>

<p>Wide receiver Samuel played just nine snaps before being forced off against the Green Bay Packers on Saturday, as the top-seed Niners toiled to a narrow 24-21 win at Levi’s Stadium.</p>

<p>Samuel was clearly missed against the Packers and while the 49ers were relieved that tests earlier this week confirmed the playmaker had not broken his shoulder, his status for Sunday remains up in the air. </p>

<p>The 28-year-old sat out practice on Wednesday, with Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan issuing an update in his subsequent press conference. </p>

<p>"He's feeling better,” he said. “It makes me feel better. His shoulder hurts."</p>

<p>Samuel’s versatility and ability to make plays in both the wide receiver and running back position makes him a unique threat in the NFL, with quarterback Brock Purdy quick to sing his team-mates praises when he faced the media on Wednesday. </p>

<p>"He's probably the best playmaker in this league," Purdy said. "You get the ball in his hands, he can do whatever he wants. He makes guys miss, breaks tackles, he's strong, he's tough, he's got grit, and we all feed off it. Deebo definitely gives us some juice and energy and momentum in our offense. If he's not playing, obviously that's tough on us, but we'll have guys to be able to play that can create that as well. If you're asking me, we'd love for Deebo to play."</p>

<p>Samuel hauled in 60 catches during the regular season for 892 yards, adding a further 225 yards rushing. He missed two games this season with another should problem, with the 49ers losing both of them, further underlining his importance to the team.</p>

<p>The 49ers host the Lions on Sunday evening, with the winners progressing to Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas where they will match up the victors of the Baltimore Ravens vs Kansas City Chiefs tilt earlier that day. </p>

<p>The LA Chargers have completed the splashiest hire of the NFL coaching merry-go-round after confirming the appointment of Jim Harbaugh as their new head coach. </p>

<p>Harbaugh replaces Brandon Staley in LA, who was given his marching orders back in December following a 63-21 trashing at the Las Vegas Raiders. With quarterback Justin Herbert injured, the Chargers limped to 5-12 record and finished bottom of the AFC West.</p>

<p>After winning just one playoff game in the seven years since the franchise moved from San Diego to Los Angeles, the team have made their highest-profile coaching appointment in recent years. </p>

<p>Here is a closer look at Harbaugh’s background. </p>

<h2>Where did Harbaugh spend his playing career?</h2>

<p>Harbaugh attended the University of Michigan and was selected bt the Chicago Bears in the first round of the 1987 NFL Draft. </p>

<p>He would spend seven years with the Bears before signing with the Indianapolis Colts in 1994. After four years with the Colts, he played for a year with the Baltimore Ravens, which was followed by two seasons in San Diego with the Chargers and closed out his playing career in 2001 after short stints with the Detroit Lions and Carolina Panthers. </p>

<h2>Where has Harbaugh coached?</h2>

<p>Harbaugh began his coaching career as an offensive consultant in the college game at Western Kentucky between 1994 and 2001, where his father Jack was head coach. His first NFL tole came as the quarterback coach for the Oakland Raiders between 2002 and 2003. </p>

<p>His first head coach job came at the University of San Diego in 2004 and he would then take the top job at Stanford in 2007. </p>

<p>The NFL came calling in 2011 when he was hired by the San Francisco 49ers, enjoying a successful four-year stint which saw him reach three consecutive NFC Championship games and lose Super Bowl XLVII to the Baltimore Ravens, coached by his brother John. </p>

<p>In 2015 he returned to Michigan, spending eight seasons with the Wolverines. </p>

<h2>What is his coaching record and what has he won?</h2>

<p>Harbaugh has a 133-52 record as a college head coach, winning the title of national champions following the Wolverines 15-0 season last year. In 2021 he was named the AP College Football Coach of the Year.</p>

<p>HIs NFL record with the 49ers reads 49-22-1 and was named as the NFL Coach of the Year in 2011. </p>

<p>As per Adam Schefter, Harbaugh has signed a five-year deal with the Chargers. New major plans reportedly emerge for The Rock and Cody Rhodes at WWE Wrestlemania

<p>Jim Harbaugh is back in the NFL after the LA Chargers confirmed they had hired the former San Francisco 49ers boss as their new head coach.</p>

<p>Harbaugh returns to the professional ranks after a nine-year stint in charge at the University of Michigan, which ended with a perfect 15-0 record last season as the Wolverines were crowned as the 2023 national champions. </p>

<p>Prior to that the 60-year-old spent four years with the 49ers, earning NFL Coach of the Year honours in 2011 and taking them to three straight NFC Championship games, including a trip to Super Bowl XLVII, in which his brother’s Baltimore Ravens team pipped them to the Vince Lombardi Trophy. </p>

<p>Speaking after his appointment was confirmed by the Chargers, Harbaugh offered some insight into how he plans to re-energise a franchise that has failed to live up to its potential in recent years, winning just one play-off game since the team moved from San Diego in 2017. </p>

<p>"The only job you start at the top is digging a hole, so we know we've got to earn our way,” Harbaugh said. “Be better today than yesterday. Be better tomorrow than today. My priorities are faith, family and football, and we are going to attack each with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind. <p>Harbaugh spent 15 years as a quarterback in the NFL between 1987 and 2001, including two seasons with the Chargers between 1999 and 2000. He replaces Brandon Staley, who was fired in December after almost three years in the job, with the LA sitting on a 5-9 record and on their way to a fourth-placed finish in the AFC West.</p>

Mike Tyson could return to the ring for a big money fight in Saudi Arabia

<p>Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol appear likely to meet later this year and the world may finally find out who is the best fighter at 175lbs.  </p>

<p>At the backend of last year, Bivol defeated Lyndon Arthur to retain his world title and Beterbiev followed that up earlier this month by stopping Callum Smith in seven one-sided rounds. </p>

<p>The pair have been on a collision course for a number of years now, but it looks like the fight is getting closer with June 1 mentioned as a possible date.  </p>

<p>Zhilei Zhang, who faces Joseph Parker in March, is eager to see who comes out on top in the light-heavyweight battle, but he seems convinced who will emerge victorious when the first bell sounds. </p>

<p>“I think that’s a great fight, I will definitely stay up and watch that fight,” said Zhang when discussing the contest with <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87t4qoGBTdQ&t=530s">FightHype</a>. </p>

<p>“Beterbiev is better on the record and better in the ring. If that fight happens, Beterbiev will hurt him and probably end this fight with a knockout.” </p>

<p>Rocky Fielding reached the top in boxing as he reigned as super-middleweight champion in 2018 before being stopped by Canelo Alvarez in December of that year.  </p>

<p>The Liverpool man endured some hard nights in the ring when losing to Canelo and Callum Smith, but despite being stopped by those two, he credits Tony Bellew as the hardest puncher he ever stepped in the ring with. </p>

<p>As a young fighter pursuing glory as an amateur at Rotunda ABC, Fielding would sometimes turn to one of the club’s former fighters for sparring with Bellew providing him with many tough rounds.  </p>

<p>With Bellew forging his own path as a professional prospect, he was often on hand to assist Fielding with his training and Rocky has spoken about those experiences. </p>

<p>"From my fights, I’ve had defeats from Canelo and Callum [Smith], but they weren’t really hard shots, they were just well-placed shots, body shots,” said Fielding when speaking to <a href="https://talksport.com/sport/1409148/canelo-ko-sparring-tyson-fury-hit-harder-tony-bellew/">Talksport</a>. </p>

<p>"But, in sparring it would obviously be Tony Bellew. I had lots of sparring with Tony when I was an amateur, he helped me out, and then when I turned pro, we had some good spars. </p>

<p>"I got caught a few times off him and I felt it down to my boots, so I would probably say Bellew has hit me the hardest.” </p>

<p>Anthony Joshua has proven several times that he has the fire and willpower to overcome adversity in the ring.  </p>

<p>After being dropped by Wladimir Klitschko in 2017, Joshua rallied to stop the legendary Ukrainian at Wembley Stadium, but that wasn’t the first time that the 2012 Olympic gold medallist hit the canvas. </p>

<p>When Joshua was still an amateur, Price was a heavyweight prospect in the professional ranks who had captured a bronze medal at the 2008 Olympics.  </p>

<p>At this time, the heavy-handed pair helped each other out by sparring and during one session, Price was able to floor Joshua. The Watford man recalled the incident when preparing for his fight with Eric Molina eight years ago. </p>

<p>"Yes, he dropped me in sparring, and I continued training and that's why I am here now," said Joshua when speaking to <a href="https://www.skysports.com/boxing/news/12183/10650384/joshua-vs-molina-i-was-floored-in-sparring-by-david-price-says-anthony-joshua">Sky Sports</a> in 2016. </p>

<p>"In a sense, you have to look at these things as a blessing in disguise because in boxing, a lot of people get dropped, get hurt and then go on and do great things.” </p>

<p>It’s almost 16 years since Oscar De La Hoya walked away from boxing but ‘The Golden Boy’ still plays a prominent role in the sport as one of the game’s leading promoters.  </p>

<p>During his illustrious career, De La Hoya carved out a reputation for himself as being a fighter who would take on all comers but who was the fastest fighter he ever faced? </p>

<p>In an incredible run that saw him capture world titles in six weight classes, De La Hoya took on some of the sport’s biggest names including Bernard Hopkins, Floyd Mayweather, and Manny Pacquiao.  </p>

<p>Looking back on his career, De La Hoya has spoken on what fighter had the most handspeed and the answer is Shane Mosley. </p>

<p>His fellow Californian defeated him twice, once controversially, and De La Hoya has paid tribute to his former rival. </p>

<p>“It was ‘Sugar’ Shane Mosley in the first fight. He had amazing hand speed. With him it was just the speed behind his punches; even though you can see them coming, there were so many – and very accurate and great power,” said De La Hoya when speaking to <a href="https://www.ringtv.com/596318-best-i-faced-oscar-de-la-hoya/">The Ring</a> in 2018. </p>

<p>A fighter like Pacquiao, he’s fast as well. He throws a lot of punches from different angles, and you get hit because you don’t know where they’re coming from. With Mayweather, he’s fast too, but his speed is more about timing.  </p>

<p>“It’s not like ‘Sugar’ Shane Mosley with four- and five-punch combinations. Mayweather is more like you throw a jab and he’ll counter it. That’s his speed. I think Shane Mosley in his prime was the fastest fighter I’ve met.” </p>

<p>Liverpool went into Craven Cottage on Wednesday needing only a draw to advance to the Carabao Cup final — and they got it.</p>

<p>The Reds drew 1-1 with Fulham after winning the first leg 2-1 two weeks ago, securing a spot in the final against Chelsea.</p>

<p>Wednesday's second leg was far from a perfect match for Liverpool, who took an early lead through Luis Diaz before giving up an equaliser in the 76th minute and holding on to the result for the final quarter-hour.</p>

<p>However, manager Jurgen Klopp isn't about to fret over the performance.</p>

<p>"This was the full cup experience," Klopp told Sky Sports. "Open game, second half they started a bit wilder. We don't score. They got the equaliser. But the boys did really well and I am really happy.</p>

<p>"The only thing that counts in the end is that we are through,. The very young ones have been incredible, so happy to see their reaction in the dressing room.</p>

<p>"They are all exceptional and they all worked extremely hard. This was not the night to shine, this was the night to qualify for a final. You heard from [Fulham manager] Marco Silva how much reaching a final would mean for Fulham, we had to prove and we did."</p>

<p>Klopp is pleased that his players have another final to look forward to, with the chance to lift a trophy and potentially boost their overall campaign as they also chase titles in the Premier League, Europa League and FA Cup.</p>

<p>"Everything great about the Carabao Cup final," he said. "Around that we have to be focused on all the other competitions as well and that is what we will do.</p>

<p>"It is so perfect. Wembley is a special place and I am really happy for everyone involved they can have that experience."</p>

<p>Manchester United's season continues this weekend with a fourth-round FA Cup tie against Newport County, with the Red Devils massive favourites to defeat the League Two side.</p>

<p>United have crashed out of the Champions League and Carabao Cup, and they are well off the pace in the Premier League with 32 points from 21 matches. That leaves the FA Cup as a potential source of glory for Erik ten Hag's beleaguered side, who last won the famed competition in 2016 and were beaten by rivals Manchester City in last year's final.</p>

<p>While getting one step further would be good for the club, one FA Cup winner does not think the Red Devils should be satisfied with it if they were to end up winning the tournament.</p>

<p>Bacary Sagna, who lifted the FA Cup with Arsenal in 2014, was speaking to <a href="https://www.paddypower.com/bet">Paddy Power</a> when he urged Ten Hag and his players to not prioritise the cup competition over trying to climb higher in the Premier League table.</p>

<p>“Manchester United cannot just focus on the FA Cup – we're talking about one of the biggest clubs in the world, and they cannot just be pleased with an FA Cup," Sagna said. </p>

<p>"It’s difficult for them because they’ve made a lot of changes in the past year, they had to rebuild, and they are still in the rebuilding process.</p>

<p>"Any team that goes through the same process, you need to be patient with the team, the coach, and we know that the fans are very demanding."</p>

<p>Sagna pointed to his former club as a model that United could follow as they try to get back to former glory.</p>

<p>“Look at what Mikel Arteta did at Arsenal, he had to rebuild, it wasn’t an easy task, and it took a long time," he said. "Eventually, United will be back to their best.</p>

<p>"With United, they can’t just be in the FA Cup – they need to go for everything and do the best that they possibly can in the league.”</p>

<p>Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes says his opposite number on Sunday, Lamar Jackson, is going to be the MVP for the 2023 NFL season.</p>

<p>Baltimore Ravens quarterback Jackson is hotly tipped to win the award, but the official announcement has not yet been made.</p>

<p>Two-time MVP Mahomes will lead his Chiefs out for a sixth straight AFC Championship game this Sunday, but unlike in past seasons they are the underdog going into the match.</p>

<p>The Ravens are the number one seeds in the AFC and many people's choice to win the Super Bowl next month.</p>

<p>Speaking at the press conferences ahead of Sunday's game, Mahomes had plenty of praise for their upcoming opponents.</p>

<p>"I've admired watching him [Jackson] from afar and know that it's gonna be a great challenge for us every time we go up against him," said Mahomes.</p>

<p>"He's going to be the MVP for a reason. He goes out there, he leads his team, he scores, he runs, he throws. He does whatever it takes to win, and that's what the greats do.</p>

<p>"The way he's able to just be a competitor and score the football, obviously, and then their entire team - it's a tall task. You've got to go out there and play your best football."</p>

<p>Liverpool are cruising in the Premier League, with a five-point cushion atop the standings after winning their last three matches.</p>

<p>The Reds have not lost a match of any kind for over a month, and have still only been defeated once in league play.</p>

<p>For most observers, Liverpool's form and continued domination would put them out in front in the title race, but one former Premier League player isn't ready to crown Jurgen Klopp's men as champions just yet.</p>

<p>Bacary Sagna, who spent 10 years in England's top flight between Arsenal and Manchester City, was speaking to <a href="https://www.paddypower.com/bet">Paddy Power</a> as he gave his assessment of Liverpool's title chances.</p>

<p>While he gives Klopp's side credit for becoming a contender so soon after retooling the squad, Sagna does not know if Liverpool will be able to overcome the absence of their attacking talisman.</p>

<p>“Liverpool are doing better in the past few years, they are playing great, and they won the Champions League," Sagna said. </p>

<p>"Players left so they had to rebuild, and rebuilding after that squad took some time and doesn’t happen overnight. I think they will finish in the top three – I don’t think they will win the league, but I still think they will have a good season.</p>

<p>"Mo Salah is another piece of the team that will be missing, and it will be interesting to see how they will do in the next games. It depends on who will replace Salah – they need more players, like Darwin Nuñez, to step up and replace him.</p>

<p>"Salah is human, so the other players need to step up and score – the next few games will be important.”</p>

Riyadh Season Cup 2024: Schedule, fixtures, live streams and how to watch

<p>The clock is ticking on John Cena's wrestling career.</p>

<p>Cena told <a href="https://www.etonline.com/john-cena-says-hes-retiring-from-the-wwe-within-the-next-3-years-exclusive-218467">Entertainment Tonight</a> this week that he intends to retire from wrestling by the age of 50 — which is just over three years from now.</p>

<p>"I'm gonna be 47 this year," Cena said. "I feel great. So inside I feel great, but I know what it takes to be a WWE performer night in and night out and I don't ever wanna just go out there and do it to do it.</p>

<p>"I wanna have the passion -- the same passion as the fanbase -- and I wanna give them exactly what they give me. The miles on the speedometer say, 'Hey, that's gotta be done before 50.'"</p>

<p>A 16-time world champion in WWE, Cena has successfully branched out into Hollywood, following the path of fellow wrestler-turned-actor Dwayne Johnson. Having starred in <em>F9</em>, <em>The Suicide Squad</em> and HBO's <em>The Peacemaker</em>, Cena's next film, <em>Argylle</em>, releases next month and is currently undergoing a big marketing push ahead of its debut.</p>

<p>Along with the pure physicality of professional wrestling, Cena also cites increasing conflicts between his WWE and Hollywood as a reason behind his decision to hang up the jean shorts and running shoes within the next three years.</p>

<p>"It's tough to juggle both because, you know, when you're filming Argylle, [director] Matthew [Vaughn] won't let you go do anything else because of insurance," Cena said. "So as long as the phone keeps ringing and we've had some good opportunities here, I'll kind of preserve that for as long as I can.</p>

<p>"But even coming back [to WWE] for these one-at-a-time things or short three-month periods, it takes its toll more and more and I've just had an incredibly fortunate run with my health. I feel great. I just want to continue to feel great the rest of my life."</p>
